For the Next 7 Generations: the Grandmothers Speak is well on its way to becoming a full-length documentary for initial theatrical distribution. We have completed principal photography and are currently in post-production. Over the course of shooting the movie, we have amassed about 400 hours of video, which we are simultaneously scanning, logging and editing. With a film of this scope, we will need 28 to 32 weeks to complete the process. We hope to release the movie in theaters early in 2008.
For The Next Seven Generations: The Grandmothers Speak and all the video materials associated with it, are the property of the International Council of the Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers. In addition to delivering the Grandmothers message to the world, the theatrical, television, DVD, satellite, Internet and educational distribution will generate revenue to sustain the Council’s global mission.
Outreach
For the Next 7 Generations: The Grandmothers Speak will bring the Grandmothers and their teachings to a global audience on a number of platforms. After its appearance in theaters, it will be distributed on national and international television, DVD and the new Internet outlets (see www.youtube.com/carolehart ).
Educational Film Series
The videotape materials already recorded include complete coverage of the twenty-one hours of breakout sessions from the first Gathering. In those sessions the Grandmothers and our western women elders explored plans for renewable resources, preservation of cultures and species, cooperative ventures to prevent global warming and eliminate nuclear weapons, integration of traditional and western medicine and ways of creating peace within and peace without.
In Santa Fe and in Mapia, the Amazonian village home of our South American Grandmothers, we videotaped the ritual gathering of sacred plant medicines and the healing ceremonies in which the medicines were used. We also have 30 hours of interviews with the Grandmothers
These materials can serve as the basis for a series of branded educational films that might include: The Grandmothers Speak: Our Mother Earth; The Grandmothers Speak: How Plant Medicines Work; The Grandmothers Speak: the Power of Prayer and Ritual; The Grandmothers Speak: Stories of Indigenous Women; The Grandmothers Speak: On the 4 Elements. Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Working in concert with a distributor/distributors of educational films. we believe this series will be welcome in many venues including various school settings from K-12 classrooms to universities and medical schools, in social activist circles and in church groups.
Archives
In our 30 hours of interviews with the Grandmothers and many more hours of prayers, rituals and ceremonies, we have unique and valuable archival documentation of sacred wisdom that will otherwise pass with the passage of these Elders.
Promotional Materials
In addition, the video materials will serve as tools for the Grandmothers to use in their live and media appearances, and to further the creation of local and regional Councils to carry out their work.
Funding Sources
To date, we have raised $170,000, most of which has already been spent on the videotaping of the Gatherings around the world and other events involving the Grandmothers, on the production of a thirteen-minute trailer, and on our editing activities to date.
Primary donors have been Ann Rockefeller Roberts’ Fund for Abundance, the Threshold Foundation, the Eastman Foundation, the Pond Foundation, Dr. Dean Ornish, The Philanthropic Collaborative (Rockefeller), The Tides Foundation, Chicken and Egg Fund, and Marlo Thomas & Phil Donahue. Additional funds have been raised from private donors.
We estimate that we will need an additional $250,000 to deliver For the Next Seven Generations: The Grandmothers Speak. A complete budget is available upon request.
